About this site
I'm building this for people who work alone too much and need to know someone else understands.
I've been making things professionally since the 1990s... films, websites, photographs, paintings, logos, mobile apps. I graduated with honors from a Canadian university, and I've lived and worked in Turkey, Ethiopia, Gabon, Toronto, and New York. Before that, other places. I document obsessively; thousands of photographs and videos, most of them still unedited, waiting on hard drives for a purpose.
This site is for that purpose.
I started this blog to share what decades of creative work taught me, mostly through failure, and I want to help younger creatives avoid the mistakes I made, or at least understand them when they make them, anyway. I also wanted a place to publish the writing that never became novels or screenplays; the morning thoughts, the side projects, the observations that don't fit anywhere else.
If you subscribe, you'll get tutorials that read like stories, stories that teach techniques, and commentary on workflow, motivation, and the daily mechanics of creative work. Also: unedited footage from countries I left behind, presented with context about how and why I shot it.
